The St. Regis Princeville Resort's Makai Golf Club
KAUA'I, Hawaii – The St. Regis Princeville Resort's Makai Golf Club has been designed by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and is an 18-hole championship course situated alongside serene lakes, native woodlands and the spectacular coastline with views of Bali Hai and Hanalei Bay. The St. Regis Princeville opened in October 2009 after a multi-million dollar renovation, marking the legendary brand's first resort in Hawaii and introducing an unparalleled level of sophistication and serene luxury to one of the most remarkable destinations in the world.
The renovation to the golf club featured the introduction of Seashore Paspalum turf grass on to all fairways and greens, providing spectacular playing surfaces for golfers of all skill levels. Additional improvements included the reconfiguring greens complexes and green surrounds, as well as bold reshaping of all bunkers. The signature 7th hole on the Makai Course plays to 213 yards from the back tees. It consists of a challenging tee shot over scenic cliffs, onto to a green which is surrounded by brilliant white bunkers and magnificent views of the mountains and Pacific Ocean. The course plays to a par 72 with four different sets of tees that can be stretched to more than 7,200 yards from the tips.
Originally designed by Trent Jones, Jr. in 1971, the Makai Course has long been considered one of Hawaii's premier championship layouts. It has appeared on several Top 100 lists and is ranked by Golf Digest as one of Hawaii's best courses. In addition to the Makai Golf Club, guests of The St. Regis Princeville can also experience the Prince Golf Course, an 18-hole, par 72 course also
designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Consistently ranked among America's finest golfing destinations, the Princeville courses are as challenging as they are breathtaking.
The St. Regis Princeville Resort is an elegant reflection of its island home, paying homage to the land and culture. The resort's interior design reflects Hawai'i's natural surroundings, the sea, sky and earth. The hotel's transformation is guided by the Hawaiian concept of the Ahupua'a, a philosophy of living in balance with nature. The exclusive resort introduces the pre-eminent
services and amenities of the iconic St. Regis brand including the St. Regis Butler Service, signature Halele'a Spa and the introduction of Kaua'i Grill by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, 252 guest rooms, including 51 premium ocean view suites. To achieve the overall design vision, St. Regis partnered with celebrated residential designer David Easton, hotel design firm WATG and local Hawaiian architecture firm Group 70.
The St. Regis Princeville is steeped in grand Hawaiian heritage and is built on legendary grounds beside the emerald green Hanalei Valley and overlooking the awe inspiring Napali Coast. The area was named the "city of the prince" after a royal visit by Hawai'i's Prince Albert, son of King Kamehameha IV in 1860. Princeville's breathtaking natural setting has made the area among the premiere destinations in the world. The resort is surrounded by five majestic mountains, a patchwork of taro farms, a wildlife refuge, equestrian paths and hiking trails, ancient sea caves and lagoons.
